EDIT 2: Eventually found the OK rating in the SSA as well. It was a lot clearer maybe the P420 controller provides more useful reports over the earlier P410. The funny thing is, I have a G8 v2 HP server at home, and have used all of these utilities, including having replaced a RAID drive. Still planning on ordering a drive, it appears the easiest way to go. Using the HP System Management Homepage says the Logical Drive status is OK (I wish I could have seen something that clear in the SSA GUI, it'd have made me feel better sooner).

If I have to get the client an authorized part, that's what I'll do, I just wish it was more clear in the diagnostics whether the array is functional, or isn't -if it isn't, I need to figure out how to use the CLI to force a rebuild on the hotspare while I get a fourth drive.ĮDIT: I have found Ebay parts that are new-old-stock OEM. I don't really want to get an eBay spare I'd be concerned that I'd get something HP will report as a non-certified drive. I don't see where the report (or even the SSA) is very clear on whether the array itself is degraded or intact. I have the SSA diagnostics report, and it shows a drive (non-existent, the drive 0 I mentioned) as failed). It's really hard to tell whether I have a degraded array and a hotspare that didn't decide to rebuild it, or a rebuilt array missing an original drive.

I've installed the HPSSACLI, but my familiarity of it is limited, and I'd rather ask someone who is more familiar than do something stupid and break things.Īctually, now I keep looking at HP's reports, and I'm wondering. If anyone can show me how to use Smart Storage Administrator or the commandline array configuration utility to remove Drive 0 from the array and clear the alert, I'd appreciate it. At the moment, I prefer not to put a new drive into the system, though if that's the only way, we'll add a new 300GB 2.5" SAS drive (may also require a caddy I don't have and going through HP's part system which I despise, as their servers may be good but the HPE website is a confusing mass of garbage. I'm not familiar with the best way to do this using HP's storage utilities. What I want to do is remove the Drive 0 from the configuration so that I don't get Event Log errors and alerts from this non-existent drive, which will open up tickets in our monitoring system. We have already started backups and have good ones. We will probably be replacing this server in the next year. The array is intact, but HP Smart Storage Administrator is complaining that Drive 0 has failed (no surprise, it doesn't exist). HOWEVER, Drive 0 was removed, and never replaced. It appears that a RAID failure occurred at some point in the past. Three (0,1,2) as a RAID 5 and a fourth (drive 3) as a hotspare. HP ProLiant M元50 G6 server shipped with 4 drives (P410i controller). What I eventually find leads me to the following scenario: Jun 3 15:30:28 esxi-host avpcimon: -06:00 2018 697 1 | 2, so onboarding a new client, and up pops a drive failure on one of their two servers. A HDD is marked as offline if the RAID controller detects it as bad.ĭegraded Performance Optimization: Disabled The number of Hard Disk Drives (HDD) installed in the server, and the status of each of these, is reported. The Raid Status page displays available information related to the status of the Hard Disk RAID feature. You can see the RAID battery status if you login to the CM web page, select "Raid Status" under "Diagnostics": Battery/Capacitor Status: Failed (Replace Batteries/Capacitors).
